Description
11m operator since 1978.
After 2 or 3 years as a HF SWL in the 70s, my father bought me a Kraco KCB4004 when I was just 10 years of age. Those old enough will more than remember the DV27 on a biscuit tin lid mentality.
That was back in the convoy era. When the likes of Smokey and the Bandit and Convoy movies helped explode CB radio in Great Britain. Back in the days when the United Kingdom did not exist? lol.
I added a pic to show 1978 vs 2024. The first vs last CB radio purchases. The difference between almost 40 years.
Operating wise, prefer DX to local. I use all modes as a PTT voice operator. But no data modes. Not really into 5/9 contacts either. Prefer to chat :-)
Base: -
Yaesu FT450D (lends itself well to 11m operating for a multitude of reasons).
EA Delta-11 delta loop. Mast mounted 1/2w agl (pictured).
Apex down/bottom fed gives horizontal polarisation. However, moderately high angle of take off.
Imax 2000. Ground/pole mounted at just a 1/4w agl.
Vertically polarised of course. But relatively low angle of take off.
Although I am only 75-80 meters above sea level. I am located on top of a hill and look down on everything. Antenna height therefore is not quite the same as being located in typical suburbia.
Deploy a HyEnd 10-12m bandpass filter and numerous line isolators on the feed lines.
Mobile:-
President Washington II.
Sirio 3000 / Sirio 145 mag mount.
And a proper good Audi. Lol.
No fancy microphones, equalisers or linear amplifiers.
